Andy Samberg is one of the funniest artists working today. He has been on Saturday Night Live and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and he has also been the voice of cartoon figures. He is also a skilled director and writer.

His best parts show how talented he is and how different his style is. Here are the top five Andy Samberg movies to watch, which range from singing mockumentaries to romantic comedies.

1. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

This satire isn’t as sharp or clever as it needs to be. Rather than a single big joke that’ll carry the audience through the story, Popstar instead opts for a machine gun approach. Almost every gag is loaded with potential and the fact that more miss than land makes the whole thing feel a little less funny than it could have been.

Still, the flick is a blast of high-speed comedy with plenty to enjoy for fans of the band and others who want to see a smart, funny take on the music business. While the plot isn’t as strong or layered as it could have been, the repelisplus film has the power of the Lonely Island brand behind it and features plenty of catchy tunes that will stay with you after leaving the theater. Plus, it boasts a few of the best cameos in recent memory. That alone makes this a movie to check out.

2. Hot Rod

The jokes aren’t all that deep, but they’re all pretty funny and the characters come alive with a lot of energy. It also helps that Samberg is a natural in the role of a total loser who believes in his own invincibility. It’s a big leap from his sexy nymphomaniac character in Napoleon Dynamite, but it’s a role that he seems perfectly comfortable with and that he makes look easy.

The random humor might turn off some people, but I think it’s one of the more underrated stupid comedies out there and I definitely recommend checking it out. Plus, it features an awesome cast that includes the ever-reliable Samberg, Isla Fisher (from Wedding Crashers) as Rod’s love interest and the hilarious Will Arnett as a stereotypical vile boyfriend.

3. I Love You Man

While this short film only features a small role for Samberg, the actor makes the most of his appearance. His goofy line delivery and facial expressions are spot on in this flick. The vumoo film is also a visual treat with plenty of music and unique editing.

While this isn’t an actual feature film, this episode of the popular television show is worth a watch for Samberg’s talent and creativity. He has a lot of memorable moments as Detective Jake Peralta on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The series, which stars Chris Parnell and Melissa Benoist, has earned numerous awards and nominations for its writing, acting and directing. It’s no wonder why this iconic comedy is a must-see for any fan of the genre.

4. Freaknik: The Musical

The movie even contains a few jokes that’s sure to be of particular interest to fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, such as the fact that Samberg’s character is obsessed with Die Hard. He’s even made a plea for Bruce Willis to make a cameo on the show, something which would be quite a sight indeed.

It’s in movies like this one that Andy Samberg proves he’s more than capable of doing more than just playing a lovable goof detective. From 2013 to 2021, he starred as Jake Peralta on the Fox and later NBC police sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which saw him win a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Series Musical or Comedy. He’s also appeared in numerous other theatrical films, commercials and music videos.

5. Palm Springs

As with many time-loop comedies, comparisons to Groundhog Day are inevitable. But the film does more than recycle Bill Murray’s cynical weatherman, mining instead the idea that repetition can kill sex drives, marriages and the will to live.

This short comedy is one of Samberg’s best, pairing him with Kit Harington as professional tennis players whose marathon match becomes the longest in Wimbledon history. The movie’s loose California kid humor and off-brand absurdity makes it a blast to watch, while the pair’s brilliant performances give it a level of charm that elevates the film from offbeat comedy to darkly poignant story.
